My Sunflower
56I went to our farm one late summer day and found nearly all the sunflowers in bloom. The sight of them was so enchanting that it evoked some emotions I dare not speak. There is that serene sense or feeling that is created in one when you are in the middle of nothing but magnificent beauty: magical yellow and green, bees buzzing, birds chirping, butterflies flitting among the blossoms, all those fancy spider webs, lady bugs, a silent breeze… and all is completed when you get a call from that girl you really like… I loved it. I wrote the first two verses (I typed it on my phone while I waited for my folks to complete their tour of the farm) after that phone call. Yea, call me crazy.
Sunflowers and You
I am standing in the sunflower field
And hear a call like a golden finch’.
A slither of love-like [to which I yield]
Calls me to a surrendering flinch.
Butterflies flit among the blossoms
With flashing sparkles of lustrous colors.
Emotions have turned quickly within my bosom
Without a hint, a hush or a sputter
But in great outburst to overflowing.
The somnolent summer’ now asleep
Through these God-forsaken sullen skies.
Sunflowers flaunt an enchanting yellow
Before me like a field of daisies.
I feel the wind; a sweep
Across my face like floating kisses
And hear the call, − the mellow
In the voice in my ears that caresses
Me, and at once I know it is you.
There is a glint in your eyes
Like the glow of celestial crystals
[You are standing there] in my view
Like the pristine look of autumn leaves
In the gentle breeze of this season new.
Trees are tinged green and yellow
Like the bloom of sunflowers.
Autumn winds silences the summer grieves,
And calm returns to these sunflower fields.
I feel the gentle caress in the wind
Like a thousand movements of your slender fingers.
I see faces in these sunflowers;
Their enchanting smiles and love-responses
Like the beauty I see in you ---
And darling, to ends where this love has fledged.
I surmise that I will live and love the days
And live and love with you.

I liked the imagery in this one.
